John Goedeken D.V.M.

I am a 1969 graduate of Oklahoma State College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon completion of two years in the United States Air Force, I established Edgewood Animal Hospital in 1971. My rural farm background led me into veterinary medicine. My professional career has been devoted to building a medical practice aimed at providing quality medical care in an efficient manner for the animals of our community. My non-medical interests include: family, church, farming and old cars. I credit any success I've had in attaining my goals and enjoying life to my wife of 30 some years, Karen, who has supported my endeavors, raised our children and tolerated my short comings and idiosyncrasies.

I have pursued my career in small animal medicine in practices in Sparta Illinois, Victor Iowa and Oelwein Iowa prior to joining the staff of Edgewood Animal Hospital in October 2001. In my spare time I like to read books of all kinds, I am a book addict. I also play the piano, the french horn, do cross stitch, and enjoy yard work. I am co-owned by 4 cats: Calliope, Sapphire, Beatrix, and Potiphar.

Karen Taylor D.V.M.

I was raised on a farm in north central Kansas by my parents, Max and Mary Taylor, as the middle child of five. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1976 and my DVM degree in 1980 from Kansas State University. My first job opportunity brought me to Iowa, a mixed animal practice in Brooklyn, IA. In 1985 I joined Dr. Goedeken at Edgewood Animal Hospital. In 1987 I married Pepper Brothersen; we eloped to Las Vegas in his semi-truck. I continued to enjoy working with Dr. Goedeken until 1998 when, for family reasons, I moved to Kansas City. Things changed as they often do, so when Dr. Goedeken offered me a position at Edgewood Animal Hospital in April 2004, I moved back to Iowa. When not practicing veterinary medicine, I am the bookkeeper for my husband's small independent trucking company. I also enjoy gardening, and the company of my two cats, Callie and Baby and my canary Tweet.
