Nobody ever wants to think about their pet experiencing an emergency situation, but accidents happen and sudden, unexpected illnesses occur. It’s important that you are prepared ahead of time and know to whom you can turn in the event that your loved one requires urgent medical attention. This is especially important in situations when every second counts.

Edgewood Animal Hospital is equipped to provide critical care at a moment’s notice. Our team is experienced and prepared to deliver the precise care needed to improve the chances of a positive outcome for your pet. Whether it’s administering first aid, conducting an advanced diagnostic evaluation or performing an emergency surgery to save your pet’s life, we’re here to step in and handle whatever urgent medical needs your pet may be experiencing.

Some signs that your loved one may need urgent medical attention include, but are not limited to:

  • Unconsciousness
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Puncture wounds or lacerations
  • Inability to urinate or defecate
  • Vomiting or diarrhea that occurs for more than 24 hours or contains blood
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Trauma or accident (i.e. being struck by a car)
  • Ingestion of something toxic
  • Lameness
  • Seizures

If your pet exhibits any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical care. Whenever possible, we always advise you to phone ahead before bringing your pet in for critical care. This allows us to provide advice and guidance on certain things that you can do to manage the situation in the interim, and to prepare ahead of time so that we are able to step in and assist the moment you arrive at the clinic.

We sincerely hope you never face the need for emergency veterinary care, but just in case, it’s good to know that you can count on us to be there in your time of need.
